Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, the patron saint of our parish, was born Elizabeth Ann Bayley in 1774 in New York, City. Her remarkable life spans the full spectrum of human experience–
bulleta New York socialite,
bulleta devoted wife,
bulletmother of five children,
bulletconvert to the Catholic Faith,
bulletand eventually a tireless servant of the Lord.

She was the foundress of the Sisters of Charity and of the first academy for girls under Catholic sponsorship in the United States. The legacy she left now includes six religious communities with more than 11,000 members, hundreds of schools, orphanages, hospitals, day nurseries, and child care centers throughout the United States and the world. Her works led her to be canonized on Sunday, September 14, 1975, in Saint Peter's Square, by Pope Paul VI. She was the first native-born American to be canonized. She was chosen by the bishop to be the patron Saint for our parish. So in 1979, our parish was dedicated to her memory, becoming Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
