CURSILLODeacon Jim Casapulla, (386) 445-2246, ext. 105The Cursillo movement was founded by an apostolic group of laymen and priests headed by Bishop Juan Cuervas in Majorca, Spain. Between 1943-l952 they studied contemporary theologians and examined the condition of the Church which culminated in Christianity. They ensured that the enthusiasm of the cursillistas would continue with a follow-up program. The three-day weekend consists of some thirty to forty men or women candidates, both lay and religious, who are sponsored by a cursillista (one who has been on a Cursillo). The weekend begins on Thursday evening around 7:00 pm at the diocesan retreat center and ends around the same time on Sunday evening. The retreat team usually consists of some 15 laymen or women, priests, and the weekend layperson coordinator. A series of talks are given throughout the weekend which is also interspersed with laughter, recreation, song, discussion, prayer and many moments of silence and reflection. Following the weekend, the Cursillistas meet regularly in small groups to share and pray. The groups then come together, usually once a month, for the Ultreya a time of prayer, witness, sharing and fellowship. |
